The Ronin M can easily accept a quick release for my Manfrotto 577 Rapid Connect adapter for the 501 style plates. The Ronin M is selling on DJI’s website for just under $1400 and comes with the Ronin M, 1 battery, battery charger, remote controller transmitter for dual op, and Ronin M stand. I do not have the MIMIC so I cannot comment on that at this time. It comes with MōVI M5, 2 batteries, battery charger, MōVI stand, MōVI M5 travel case, Freefly MIMIC Beta Program. The Movi M5 bundle currently selling on Freefly’s website for just under $4000. The fact that there is no cage makes the Ronin M smaller and less cumbersome.Īlthough it is unclear exactly how to compare apples to apples…. I immediately was worried that I would not get as good of a performance but it performed just as good. The ronin does not have a cage like the Movi. I tried without the top bar and noticed bumpier shots right away so I kept it as a full cage as recommended. I noticed the Movi cage needs to be complete with all 4 sides in order for me to get the best performance. The Ronin battery just plugs like any other battery and charges very fast. There are warnings about over charging the battery and ruining it. You need to plug in two separate wires when charging the Movi and it is advised to do it a specific order. The battery on the Ronin M lasts longer than the Movi plus the Ronin M battery seems like a finished product compared the Movi battery which looks a little more on the prototype side. I currently fly a Canon 5D Mark III on these stabilizers: Now let’s compare my experiences with both. I will say between the Movi M5 and Ronin M, once these stabilizers are balanced properly, the both perform very well. Once you understand how the stabilizer reacts to subtle adjustments, you will become in tune with how it balances and the process will become quicker and quicker. Usually once the process is mastered with the same camera, it will probably take about 5 mins every time (unless you hit bumps). I always advise giving yourself as much time as you need to get this first balance down. Usually the initial balance takes some time because it’s the first time you are rigging your camera to a new piece of gear plus you’re practicing a routine that will eventually become second nature and quicker down the road. Like any floating stabilizer, balance is the key to best performance. I now own both the Movi M5 and the Ronin M and I thought it would be nice to share my thoughts on both gimbals for those who are undecided about what they should buy.
